PEX-AL-PEX pipe recycling and reuse



PEX-AL-PEX piping, also known as aluminum-plastic composite pipe, is a type of pipe consisting of three layers of material, with an aluminum layer in the middle and cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) layers inside and outside. This type of pipe combines the excellent properties of the PEX material with the strength and stability of the aluminum layer, offering a variety of advantages and a wide range of applications.

Fields of application

PEX-AL-PEX piping shines in the construction field due to its excellent resistance to high temperature, corrosion and flexibility. It is especially suitable for underfloor heating systems and hot water supply to ensure stable transmission of hot water and prolong the life of the system.
It is also widely used in water supply systems to provide safe and stable water transmission. In addition, PEX-AL-PEX piping is also involved in the chemical and food processing industries, where its excellent corrosion resistance makes it ideal for handling corrosive liquids.

Recycling Value

PEX-AL-PEX piping consists of high-density polyethylene (or cross-linked polyethylene), a hot-melt adhesive layer, and aluminum alloy, all of which have high recycling value.
Through recycling treatment, they can be converted into new plastic raw materials or metal products, realizing the reuse of resources.


Recycling process

Collection and Sorting:
Waste PEX-AL-PEX pipe is first collected at a recycling processing center.
Here, the pipes undergo an initial sorting and screening process to ensure that the recovered pipes do not contain other impurities or non-recyclable substances.
Crushing & Separation:
Pipes are crushed using mechanical equipment to cut them into smaller fragments or particles.
Subsequently, the different components of the crushed material are separated by physical methods such as screening, magnetic separation, and wind separation. In particular, the inner and outer layers of PEX (or cross-linked polyethylene) are effectively separated from the aluminum layer in the middle.
Cleaning and drying:
The separated PEX material and the aluminum material are cleaned separately to remove the dirt and impurities adhering to the surface.
The cleaned material is dried to remove excess moisture for subsequent processing and utilization.
