How to recycle automotive laminated glass and architectural laminated glass?

Application prospect

With the tightening of environmental policies and the increasing demand for resource recycling, the recycling of laminated glass (mainly automotive laminated glass and building laminated glass) has gradually become a focus of industry attention. The core structure of laminated glass consists of two layers of glass sandwiching PVB (polyvinyl butyral) or SGP (ionic intermediate film) film. The key to its recycling lies in the efficient separation of glass and film, achieving the resource utilization of both types of materials.

Technological process

1. Preparation of sprinkler system

Install a sprinkler pipe in the middle position of the roller shaft of the roller mill to ensure that the water flow can evenly penetrate the contact surface between the glass and PVB film during the crushing process. Watering effect: Softens PVB film, accelerates its water absorption expansion, and facilitates subsequent separation of glass and film.

2. Glass feeding

The worker places the car windshield (or other laminated glass) on the feeding platform of the roller machine and manually pushes the glass into the roller pressing area. Attention: Glass should be placed flat to avoid uneven breakage caused by tilting.

3. Crushing and preliminary stacking

The laminating machine breaks the laminated glass into small pieces (usually 10-30cm ² fragments) through the squeezing action of two sets of pressure rollers. The broken glass fragments should be stacked flat and completely covered with rain cloth, and left to stand for 2-3 days. Stacking purpose: To allow PVB film to fully absorb moisture, gradually changing color from transparent to milky white (indicating completion of water absorption and expansion), and reducing adhesion with glass.

4. Conveyor belt transfer

After settling, workers transfer the glass fragments covered with rain cloth to the conveyor belt, and 4-5 pieces can be placed each time (adjusted according to the width of the conveyor belt). The conveyor belt transports the fragments to the next process (such as the laminated glass separator).

5. Material discharge and warehouse door control

When the equipment is running, the discharge status needs to be determined by sound: when there is no sound of glass impact or friction, it indicates that the current batch of fragments has completely passed through the equipment. At this point, the operator uses the wireless remote control to press the “on” button to open the warehouse door for discharging; After the discharge is completed, press the “Close” button to close the warehouse door. Only after confirming that the warehouse door is completely closed, can the next batch of feeding continue.

6. Post treatment of PVB film

The separated PVB membrane needs to undergo the following operations:
Cutting ribbon: Remove glass shards or sealing strips remaining at the edges of PVB film;
Laying and packaging of plastic film: Lay the PVB film flat on the plastic film, roll it up and seal it for subsequent cleaning or recycling (such as recycling into PVB particles).
