Complete Guide to Maintenance of Sharpening Machine: Extending Equipment Life

Time:2025-07-29

Equipment structure analysis

Modern sharpening machines adopt a compact body design, integrating four core modules: worktable, electromagnetic suction cup, high-precision grinding head, and intelligent electrical system. Its innovative oscillating flywheel structure, combined with a uniform cutting system, can achieve uniform grinding of the cutting edge of the tool. It has the characteristics of stable machining accuracy, high operating efficiency, and strong durability, especially suitable for precision machining of various straight edge cutting tools (such as cutting knives, printing knives, etc.).

Core points of daily maintenance

1. Basic cleaning and lubrication

After daily homework, use compressed air to clean the metal debris on the surface of the machine’s guide rails, screws, and electromagnetic table to prevent dust accumulation from affecting motion accuracy.
Add specialized lubricating oil to the X/Y axis guide rails every week to ensure smooth reciprocating motion of the grinding head and reduce the risk of wear.

2. Inspection of key components

Grinding head component: Check the wear of the grinding wheel every month, use a diamond repair pen to correct the surface of the grinding wheel, and maintain a circumferential runout of ≤ 0.02mm.
Electromagnetic suction cup: Regularly check the uniformity of suction force, measure the gap between the workpiece and the suction cup with a feeler gauge (recommended to be controlled at 0.05-0.1mm), to avoid local virtual connection causing machining deviation.
Transmission system: Check the tension of the synchronous belt. If it is too loose, it will cause cutting errors, and if it is too tight, it will accelerate bearing wear.

Deep maintenance and adjustment process

1. Blade clearance calibration

Place the standard feeler gauge (thickness selected according to processing requirements) flat on the entire length of the blade, and start the oscillating flywheel to complete 3-5 reciprocating motions of the upper tool holder.
Gradually tighten the fixing bolts of the knife holder symmetrically (using diagonal stepwise tightening method), and after each round of adjustment, retest the gap until the entire blade edge contacts the feeler gauge with the same tightness.

2. Electrical system maintenance

Quarterly inspection of the fastening status of the wiring terminals inside the control cabinet, using a thermal imaging instrument to detect temperature anomalies in the frequency converter and servo drive.
When updating the PLC program, it is necessary to back up the original parameters to avoid inaccurate motion control caused by misoperation.

Fault Emergency Response Plan

Fault Phenomenon Possible Causes Solutions
Irregular grinding patterns Grinding wheel out-of-round / Contaminated guide rails Dress the grinding wheel + Thoroughly clean the guide rails
Abnormal tool holder vibration Loose flywheel balance weights Shut down the machine for inspection and recalibrate dynamic balance
Decline in electromagnetic suction Aged coils / Abnormal control voltage Replace suction chuck components or inspect power supply module
