Automatic PVC Pipe Slotting Machine for Well Screen & Drainage Pipe
Time:2026-06-26
A PVC pipe slotting machine cuts precise longitudinal or circumferential slots into PVC, UPVC, or PE pipes, producing well screens, drainage filter pipes, and vent perforation pipes. WANROOETECH’s fully automatic horizontal series covers pipe diameters from Φ55 mm to Φ400 mm, with PLC programmable control and cycle times as fast as 20 seconds per pipe.

How the Slotting Process Works
The machine runs a fully automatic four-stage cycle from pipe loading to finished screen output:
Stage 1 — Pipe Loading & Clamping: The operator places the pipe onto the support tray. A pneumatic expanding clamp (0.6 MPa air supply) locks the pipe concentrically on the indexer shaft, ensuring it stays centered throughout the cycle.
Stage 2 — PLC Indexing & Row Positioning: The PLC-controlled indexer rotates the pipe to the first programmed row angle and locks it. The operator configures slot count, row spacing, and travel distance once via the touch-screen HMI; the system repeats these parameters identically for every pipe.
Stage 3 — Automatic Slotting: The slotting head(s) advance along the pipe length, cutting slots at the preset interval using W18Cr4V high-speed steel circular saw blades. Multiple slots are cut per pass — no secondary operation needed. Both vertical and horizontal slot orientations are supported within the same machine setup.
Stage 4 — Indexing to Next Row & Cycle Repeat: After each pass, the indexer automatically advances to the next row position. The cycle repeats until all programmed rows are complete, then the pipe is released for unloading. Total cycle time: 20–30 seconds (WRPS-160) to 60–80 seconds (WRPS-400) per pipe.
Why Choose WANROOETECH WRPS Series
Consistent Slot Accuracy Across Every Pipe
Manual and semi-automatic indexers drift over long production runs, resulting in uneven row spacing that fails filtration tolerances. The PLC closed-loop indexing system on the WRPS series eliminates angular drift — every pipe exits with slots in the same positions as the first, regardless of run length. This is critical for well screen pipe that must meet specified open-area ratios.
High Output Without Extra Labor
A single operator can run the machine continuously. The automatic clamp-index-cut-release cycle means no manual repositioning between rows. At 20–30 seconds per pipe on the WRPS-160, a single 8-hour shift can produce several hundred pipes without additional headcount.
Multi-Slot One-Pass Efficiency
Multiple slots are formed in a single slotting head pass — there is no need to run the pipe through multiple times for different slot positions. Slot width is adjusted by swapping the circular saw blade set; the rest of the machine setup stays unchanged. This makes changeovers between product specifications fast and practical.
Wide Pipe Range, One Machine
The adjustable fixture system accommodates the full diameter range within each model without tooling changes. The WRPS-400, for example, handles anything from Φ110 mm to Φ400 mm on the same frame. Factories running multiple pipe size specifications do not need separate machines for each diameter range.
Durable Blade Material
All models use W18Cr4V high-speed steel blades — a tungsten-molybdenum HSS grade with high hot hardness and wear resistance, well-suited to continuous PVC cutting. Blade life is extended compared to standard carbon steel, reducing replacement frequency and unplanned downtime.
Applications
Slotted PVC and PE pipes produced by this machine are used across several end markets:
Water well screens for groundwater extraction — horizontal slots control infiltration while blocking sand and soil particles.
Agricultural field drainage — slotted pipes buried in fields manage subsurface water and prevent waterlogging.
Road and construction site dewatering — perforated pipes redirect groundwater from road bases and excavation zones.
Playground, park, and lawn drainage — smaller-diameter slotted pipes manage surface and subsurface water in landscaped areas.
PVC-U pipe is the preferred well screen material in many markets due to its corrosion resistance, 50+ year service life in buried conditions, lighter weight versus steel (simplifying installation), and lower cost per meter of finished pipe.
How to Choose the Right Model
Pipe diameter: Match the pipe OD to the correct model — WRPS-160 for up to Φ160 mm, WRPS-250 for up to Φ250 mm, WRPS-400 for up to Φ400 mm.
Slot direction: Confirm whether your product requires vertical slots (drainage/vent pipe) or horizontal slots (well screen).
Output target: The WRPS-160 cycles at 20–30 seconds per pipe. Calculate daily pipe count against available shift hours to confirm which model meets your throughput requirement.
Utilities: All models require 0.6 MPa compressed air. Confirm local power supply voltage before ordering.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a slotting machine and a pipe perforation machine?
A slotting machine cuts narrow elongated slots with circular saw blades. A perforation machine punches round holes with a die. For water well screens, slots provide more controlled filtration at the same open-area ratio. WANROOETECH’s WRPS models support both vertical and horizontal slot configurations within the same machine.
Can the machine handle PVC, UPVC, and PE pipe?
Yes. All three materials are compatible within the supported diameter range. Blade specification may vary by pipe compound hardness — confirm the pipe material with the engineering team before finalizing blade selection.
Can I bring pipe perforation in-house if I currently outsource it?
Yes — and this is one of the most common reasons buyers invest in a slotting machine. In-house production gives direct control over slot specification, reduces lead time dependency, and lowers per-unit processing cost at sufficient volume. The PLC control system allows operators to reach consistent output within the first days after commissioning.
