How to recycle scrap aluminum?

Scrap aluminum recycling follows a closed-loop can-to-can system that recovers 95% of original material energy. Used beverage cans (UBC) account for over 40% of recycled aluminum feedstock, forming the core input stream alongside building profiles, automotive components, and electronic casings.

The recycling workflow operates through five integrated stages. First, the aluminum can shredder reduces bulk scrap to uniform 30–50mm particles for optimal surface area exposure. Second, thermal decomposition at 450–550°C removes organic coatings and liners without oxidizing the aluminum substrate. Third, high-intensity magnetic separation extracts ferrous impurities, followed by eddy current sorting to segregate alloy series. Fourth, clean aluminum feeds into dual-chamber melting furnaces at 700–750°C for flux treatment and degassing. Finally, molten aluminum is cast into standard ingots meeting national specifications for direct reuse in die-casting, rolling, and extrusion operations.

This closed-loop system achieves 95% energy savings versus primary smelting, prevents 9 metric tons of CO2 emissions per ton recycled, and completes the full cycle from consumer disposal to remanufactured product in approximately 60 days.
